Meet Our Pickleball Instructor

Instructor: Bo Wheeler

Bo is a former technology executive and an Adjunct Professor of Cybersecurity at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. He and his wife, Michele, moved to Wilmington in 2023 after many years in the Charlotte/Lake Norman area.

A lifelong athlete, Bo discovered pickleball in 2020 after years of competitive tennis and quickly became deeply involved in the sport. He holds a 4.8 DUPR rating and is an IPTPA-certified Pickleball Instructor.

Since moving to Wilmington, Bo has been an active and encouraging presence in the local pickleball community—especially at Wrightsville Beach—where he’s known for helping others grow their game. He’s excited to give back and help expand pickleball at Beau Rivage and throughout the Wilmington area.

Beginner Pickleball Clinic

Instructor: Jimmy Carlo

Jimmy Carlo started playing pickleball during the Covid pandemic in March of 2020, and fell in love with the game so that it became part of his daily activity.

Jimmy started playing two to three times a day, plus playing in the Wilmington men's softball league and basketball league. His passion grew so strong for Pickleball that he gave up playing basketball and started to train individuals wanting to learn how to play pickleball. Jimmy started training in 2021 and continues to train for free at Beau Rivage Golf and Resort. He has trained over two hundred trainees. Jimmy became the Vice President of the Cape Fear Pickleball Club in 2022, when the membership was approximately 350 members. Since then, it has grown to over 940 members in 2023. He constantly reminds players, it's only a game, so have fun playing. Enjoy the new friendships and wonderful people of pickleball.
