Port City Has It All

Midway between New York and Florida is the major port city of Wilmington, the dominating town in the area of New Hanover County. Within a few minutes drive, residents and visitors can see historic plantations, Civil War forts, a Revolutionary War village, and a marine research center. Wilmington is the home of the U.S.S. North Carolina Battleship Memorial, the colorful annual North Carolina Azalea Festival and Cape Fear Riverfest. The city’s many charms include historic architecture, magnificent gardens, unique shops, and renowned restaurants. Should you wish to visit the city, we would be pleased to provide detailed information and assistance in making reservations. Within a few minutes drive from Beau Rivage Golf & Resort, guests can find entertainment of any kind. Whatever your interests — site-seeing, surf, sand, rich history, family fun, nightlife or retail therapy — the Port City has it all.

Beautiful Island Beaches

Heading south from the resort will take you over the Snow’s Cut Bridge to the area’s most popular attractions, the islands of Carolina and Kure Beach. With Wrightsville Beach (home of the annual holiday Flotilla) just north, the Cape Fear Coast is genuinely among the most desirable locations along the Atlantic Seaboard. Abundant fishing, boating, water sport, and beachcombing opportunities surround Beau Rivage and provide year-round delight.

When you’re tired of splashing in the ocean or soaking up the rays on the beach, there is plenty to keep you busy on the islands. Enjoy a walking tour of historic Fort Fisher, the famous Civil War battle site and stronghold of the Confederacy, now a museum. Perhaps you’d rather cool off and view the marvelous display of aquatic life at the newly expanded North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. Both of these great attractions are located at the south end of Kure Beach. Those looking further south can even catch a relaxing ferry ride to the seaside town of Southport.

Head just a few minutes north, and you’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time as you reach historic downtown Wilmington. Much of the heritage has been preserved in the old river district: the Cotton Exchange is a complex of historic brick buildings covering an entire block with novelty shops and restaurants; rambling antebellum houses; and a pier where old tugboats and steamers gently bob and the riverboat Henrietta II makes pleasure trips. Old-fashioned trolleys and horse-drawn carriages dot the streets, eager to enlighten the latest visitor of the exciting history. You may choose to tour one of the many restored antebellum mansions or stroll along the beautiful Cape Fear Riverwalk. Antique lovers take heed, you will find all kinds of treasures in Wilmington’s one-stop shopping, such as the Cotton Exchange and Chandler’s Wharf, as well as many unique storefronts throughout the district. Enjoy a dinner cruise on the Henrietta III, an old-fashioned, sternwheel paddleboat, or exploring the Battleship North Carolina which is open to the public for daily touring.
